The Music Ministry at Victory Church is a vibrant, ever-developing team effort, with Jesus as its Head. The music is upbeat and strong, and also deeply passionate, reflecting the variances of praise, then worship, as we draw closer and closer to God.
This ministry is comprised of skilled musicians and vocalists who are constantly working toward improving their effectiveness at both leading worship and living as disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. Each member shares a strong desire to reflect the excellence of Jesus by growing and maturing through the disciplines of personal worship, prayer, study, fellowship, and transparency, heeding Him and following wherever He leads.
Our worship team is individually and collectively pursuing the presence of God: the ongoing experience of God and His kingdom, through His manifest presence, being fundamental to their very existence. They are committed to complete worship of God and complete dependence upon Him as well. The ultimate vision is To Worship in Spirit and in Truth.
In today’s “worship scene,” we see and hear a lot of talent being passed off as anointing. God deserves and requires more from us, as King David said in 2 Samuel 24:24, Then the king said to Araunah, ‘No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God with that which cost me nothing.’
This story is paralleled again in 1 Chronicles 21:24, Then King David said to Ornan, ‘No, but I will surely buy it for the full price, for I will not take what is yours for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings with that which cost me nothing.’ We have found you can’t worship God for free. It costs something – your whole heart.
In the Old Testament, God “set apart” musicians to lead in the temple worship. He is still setting apart people today and gifting them for this purpose, to serve in leading worship in His church. If you think you would like to be a part of this team, first complete Growth Track. Then come talk to us. We would love to give you an audition and then pursue discovering, along with you, what the Lord wants to do!
Our Worship Pastor Steven Hoyle is a musician par excellence who brought to the Victory team years of musical experience. He has played guitar since age 9 and is obviously gifted to worship God with instruments and with singing!
Steven was saved at age 18 and fully committed by 21. About three years later, he had a God-given dream. In it, he was a very young child, perhaps only 3. With his small right arm straight up, hand in hand with God Himself, he recalls being gently led into a room filled with all sorts of stringed instruments. The absolute knowing that he had always been set apart and chosen to serve God by playing these instruments was imparted to him through this dream. He woke up changed.
Steven has been attending Victory Church since 2002. He began volunteering the next year and has served in both the Student and Children’s Ministries as teacher, chaperone, and worship leader. Through the years, wherever there’s a need, Steven is usually in the midst of meeting it – whether it’s set-up/break-down, building maintenance, or hospital visitation.
Steven was hired part-time, then full-time, and then ordained for the ministry, all in 2005. At that time, he took over responsibility for the Music Ministry of Victory Church. We finally had an anointed, skilled, reliable worship leader we could depend on.
Personally, Steven enjoys playing guitar, modifying instruments, and just about everything physical and outdoors, including hiking, skydiving, rock climbing, and working out at the gym.
With superb skill, a perfect ear, and an unvarying sense of rhythm, Steven is passionate about excellence in music. He is also passionate about raising up people who are trained both musically and spiritually to lead others in worship.
His duties include: managing musical equipment, training, leading worship at services and practices, overseeing auditions, choosing team members, charting music, song selection, and pastoring and equipping team members.
Steven adds simply that his ultimate vision, both to live and to impart, is: To worship in Spirit and in Truth.
